The 1884 Maroons: Working Hard To Win

The St. Louis Unions defeated the Kansas City team this afternoon by a score of 9 to 4.  It was a hard-fought game, Manager Sullivan's reconstructed team forcing Lucas' pets to work hard to win.  The features of the game were the brilliant work of both the infields, and the heavy batting of Whitehead, Shafer and Gleason, of the visitors, and that of McLaughlin and Turbidy, of the home team.  About 5,000 people were on the grounds.
