The Rest Of The Griswold Missouri Democrat Article

As promised, here is the rest of the April 26, 1860 article from the Missouri Democrat. It consists of a diagram that shows the layout of a baseball diamond as well as the positioning of the men on the field. Merritt Griswold also included the rules of the game "as adopted by the United States Convention of Base Ball Players."

Excellent! I particularly like how that diagram uses non-standard terminology. I wonder why. Terms like "right fielder" were commonplace by this time, so it is surprising to find different names used.

Even if the terminology was anachronistic, Griswold was only about 25 years old at the time and one expect him to be using current terms. Is it possible that the terminology was something that was native to Brooklyn? Griswold most likely lived most of his life there before moving to StL.
