Andrew F. Blong

Blong was the former Police commissioner of St. Louis, and the brother of major league pitcher Joe Blong. He was involved in the management of the 1875 St. Louis Red Stockings. He was also a former member of the Police Board and the chairman of the Democratic City Central Committee. Appointed by Governor Stephens in 1901, his resignation was demanded by Governor Polk in 1909. A devoted baseball fan, he developed pneumonia as a result of catching a cold while watching a game at the American League Park in St. Louis.
