Beware: Timesink Ahead

I purchased the MLB.TV package for my computer last week. This, of course, was a horrible mistake. Now, instead of being productive, all I do is watch baseball on my computer. It's ridiculous.

Anyway, this is the first Monday that I've had the package and, naturally, there are no games until this evening. So I was messing around trying to get my baseball fix and come to find out MiLB.com, "the official site of minor league baseball," has an MiLB Gameday Audio package. And it's free (with registration)! You can't beat that with a stick. Today, they have about fifty games on the menu and, at the moment, I'm listening to the Portland Beavers playing the Salt Lake City Bees (Portland's up 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh).

Did I mention that it's free? God bless America.

Update: The Bees just got a two out, two run home run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 3-2 lead going into the eighth.

I've purchased MLB Gameday Audio for several years now, since I moved out of the Phillies radio market. I am astonished every year to find that the price is still very reasonable. I suspect that MLB regards the TV package as the revenue source, with the radio package tacked on as an afterthought. It's not as if they need to create any new content.

The interface is a bit clunky, but it gets the job done. I can listen to the audio feed at work for day games, while I think watching the video feed would be pressing my luck.

I get all the Cards games on tv, although I tend to listen to them on the radio. With the MLB.TV package (and Gameday Audio is thrown in for free with it), I've started watching teams that I haven't seen play in years-meaning I've been watching AL games. Plus I can get the Cards radio feed on the computer which is great.

I really was shocked that MiLB is putting all their content out there for free. I'd be willing to pay as much for their package as I would for MLB Gameday Audio-there's just a tremendous amount of games to choose from and they go from late morning to late evening every day.
